Items to Check Before Packing

4 Items To Double Check Before Packing

Packing up for a move can be one of the more stressful things that you do in your life. And we all know that when you are packing for a move, the more organized you do this, the better the unpacking process will be. However, before you go through your house and start organizing and packing everything, there are a few things that you need to take a few extra minutes on. And during these minutes, you need to decide if this is worth moving or not! Remember, the more items you move, the more weight this is on the truck and the more time it will take, which can increase the cost of your move.

1. Clothing in the closets

Do you wear everything that is in your closets? A good rule of thumb is if you have not worn it in the last year, then it is something that you can donate or give away. There is no need to move an entire closet of clothing that has not been worn in over a year, as chances are you would not wear this when you unpacked it at your new home.

2. Old furniture

Furniture is a super big item that you can avoid moving if you are sure you will not need it. Many people decide that a new home means new furniture in shared living spaces, meaning couches, end tables, and the like. Find a donation site that will get these for you if you choose this.

3. Junk in the basement or garage

Whether you have a basement or a garage, chances are this is where many things ended up that you no longer needed but never gave away. There is no need to move these items. Go through this and donate what you can while trashing the rest.

4. Papers in your home office

How many people are guilty of throwing some papers onto their desk without really thinking about it? Then finding it a year later and realize that you don’t need it? That is the case for many people. So, instead of packing up tons of papers that you don’t need, go through this. Shred anything you want, and then go about the rest of your packing.

Take the time to do the packing right when getting ready for a move. Trust us, we have seen how smoothly the unpacking goes when packing was done right the first time. And remember, Dunmar Moving is here for all your moving and packing needs!
