Moving in During October: Getting To Know Your New Neighborhood

October is one month that can be super fun! Despite COVID still raging, the CDC has already said that kids should be able to trick-or-treat as long as they are not in huge groups and maintain social distancing. For those moving into a new neighborhood during October, Halloween is a great time to get to know your new community! Here are a few ideas that can help you get settled and learn more about your new area.

  1. After the movers have unloaded everything into your new home, take a deep breath and look around you. Are the other houses all decked out for Halloween? If so, then go ahead and join in the fun! Grab your spooky décor and go ahead and set this up in the front yard. While the interior of your home may still be full of boxes, you will find that the décor will give you a smile and who doesn’t want to have something to smile about during a move.

  1. Be sure that you are prepared for trick-or-treaters! While you may not do the traditional handing the candy to each kid, that doesn’t mean that you cannot still enjoy this and meet some of your neighbors. Many people are going to put the candy into a large bucket that they are placing on their steps or walkway towards their home. They are then sitting on their porch or stoop, six feet or more away from the candy so that they can still meet and greet the kids and neighbors, plus see all the cute and scary costumes!

  1. Don’t over-exert yourself. For those who love Halloween, they may go all out, which is fine. However, be sure that you are not overexerting yourself. Between unpacking and getting a new house set up and celebrating Halloween, it can be a lot!
