Posted on: Thursday, October 23rd, 2025
Moving your TV doesn’t have to be stressful if you know the right way to do it. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about packing your television safely. From getting your supplies ready to sealing up the final box, we’ll walk you through each step. You might handle this yourself or get help from an expert moving crew to make the job easier. Either way, following these steps will keep your screen safe and scratch-free during the move.
Gather Packing Supplies
Start by collecting everything you’ll need. Get a moving box that’s big enough for your TV with room for padding around it. You’ll want bubble wrap or foam sheets, strong packing tape, and markers for labeling. A blanket or moving pad adds extra cushioning. Make sure your box is clean and sturdy with no tears or weak spots. Having all your materials ready before you start makes the whole process smoother and faster.
Prepare the TV
Unplug your TV and disconnect all the cables attached to it. Take your time with each cord and remember where it plugs in, snapping a quick photo with your phone helps. Wipe down your TV with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust. Remove any stands, wall mounts, or other attachments. Check for anything loose that might fall off during transport and secure it. Getting your TV ready properly sets you up for safe packing.
Protect the Screen
Your screen is the most fragile part, so give it extra attention. Lay a soft microfiber cloth directly over the screen surface. Cut a piece of cardboard or foam board that matches your screen size and tape it on top, but don’t let the tape touch the screen itself. Wrap the whole TV in a thick blanket or bubble wrap, making sure the screen area gets the most padding. These layers create a buffer that absorbs bumps and protects your display.
Secure Cables and Accessories
Keep all your cords and remotes together so nothing goes missing. Use twist ties or rubber bands to bundle each cable neatly. Label them if you want to save time when you’re setting up later. Put everything in a plastic bag and tape it to the back of the TV. This way, all your accessories travel with your television, so you won’t have to hunt for that remote control in three different boxes.
Choose a Suitable Box
Find a box made specifically for TVs, if possible, these have double-walled cardboard that’s extra strong. Measure your TV before picking a box to get the right fit. You want a little wiggle room for padding, but not so much space that the TV can shift around. Skip boxes with dents, rips, or water damage since they won’t protect your TV properly. The right box makes a huge difference in preventing damage.
Pack the TV Safely
Time to put it all together. Carefully place your wrapped TV inside the box. If there are gaps, stuff them with packing peanuts, crumpled paper, or foam to stop movement. Remove any removable stands or bases, and pack them separately. Seal the box with strong tape on all edges. Write “FRAGILE” and “THIS SIDE UP” clearly on multiple sides. Handle the box gently when moving it, and you’re all set for a damage-free move.
